Description
BUMROD A6L 7'0" #3 3pc 1Tip (with Aluminum Case)
A lightweight and supple bamboo rod designed for small stream fishing, built with a unique hollow-built modified hexagonal construction that fully utilizes the natural characteristics of bamboo.
Product Description
Handcrafted by bamboo rod builder Hidenobu Kotake from Mie, Japan, the BUMROD series embodies the natural flexibility and resilience of bamboo, delivering a smooth yet crisp line feel with excellent energy transfer.
The A6 (Advanced Six) series features a medium-fast tip action, offering quick recovery and precise control. Thanks to its distinctive modified hexagonal structure, the rod provides excellent line stability and accuracy, allowing anglers to place flies exactly where intended.
This rod is especially well-suited for dry fly fishing, enabling a smooth, rhythmic upstream presentation.
To reduce swing weight and enhance responsiveness, the tip section is built without a cap-over ferrule—guides are wrapped directly onto the blank, resulting in a lighter and more sensitive tip.
Model: A6L
The A6L features a light, supple medium-slow semi-parabolic action. While standard A6L rods are typically made from madake (timber bamboo), this particular rod is a one-off model crafted from shinodake (true bamboo), offering increased durability and deeper flex characteristics.
It bends deeply and smoothly, yet maintains excellent casting performance—perfectly balancing casting feel and fishing enjoyment.
Its compact 7' length makes it ideal for tight, technical small streams, providing exceptional maneuverability and control.
Modified Hexagonal Hollow Construction
Originally, BUMROD focused on standard hexagonal hollow-built rods. However, fully hollow structures can sometimes lack strength under heavy load, leading to structural deformation.
While reinforcement ribs are a common solution, the goal was to achieve both strength and lightness in a cleaner design.
This led to the idea of integrating a triangular internal structure within a six-sided blank. By adjusting the width and thickness of each bamboo strip, a triangular core is formed inside the hexagonal profile—resulting in the modified hexagonal hollow construction.
This design improves resistance to crushing while also enhancing line tracking and directional stability, allowing for more accurate fly placement.
Since its introduction in 2007, this structure has been continuously refined through adjustments to strip dimensions and hollowing ratios, culminating in the current design.
