Description
TOKACHI TROUT ROD “Pirika” 8'0" #3 4PC 2Tip Custom Order – Serial No. 0127
Handcrafted by Naoki Hashimoto of Tokachi Trout Rod in Hokkaido, Japan.
Hashimoto is a third-generation Scott bamboo rod builder, and his rods are known for their powerful, fast, and highly responsive casting characteristics.
The foundation of every Tokachi Trout Rod is what Hashimoto calls the “Tokachi Progressive Dry Action.”
This action combines the smooth loading characteristics of a progressive bamboo taper with excellent recovery speed. Even under a relatively light load, the rod efficiently transfers line weight into the butt section, allowing the entire blank to generate fast, controlled torque throughout the casting stroke.
The result is a bamboo rod capable of producing impressive line speed while still retaining the natural feel, depth, and smooth loading characteristics that make bamboo rods so enjoyable to cast.
Among rods of the same line weight, shorter models generally feel quicker and more responsive, while longer models provide greater reach and a deeper, smoother loading sensation.
Another important feature of Tokachi Trout Rods is Hashimoto’s custom-made ferrules. Each ferrule is designed to integrate naturally with the rod taper, helping to reduce unnecessary weight at the joints while maintaining smooth and efficient energy transfer throughout the blank.
The four-piece construction also provides excellent portability, making the rod especially practical for travel without compromising the refined casting performance of a handcrafted bamboo rod.
Pirika
The Pirika series was designed for trout fishing in the middle reaches of rivers, where moderate-width currents, wooded banks, and occasional fallen trees create both beautiful and technically demanding water.
These sections of river often hold strong rainbow trout, sometimes exceeding 40 cm, that burst from deeper lies and fight with repeated jumps once hooked. The Pirika was developed specifically for this kind of fishing, where accurate dry-fly presentation, line control, and enough reserve power to handle strong fish are all equally important.
The Pirika features a slightly finer tip than other Tokachi Trout Rod models while retaining the powerful dry-fly action that defines Hashimoto’s rods. This combination allows the rod to handle even larger dry flies at short range with excellent control and authority.
A swell-butt design provides ample power in the lower section of the rod, giving the Pirika the strength needed to control medium-sized and larger trout while also improving recovery and efficiency when making repeated casts.
This custom 8'0" #3 version brings a lighter and more delicate character to the Pirika concept while preserving the series’ signature torque, recovery speed, and progressive loading. The longer 8-foot length provides excellent reach and line control, making it especially well suited to technical dry-fly fishing, longer drifts, and situations where precise presentation is required over a wider casting range.
Created as a custom-order rod, this Pirika represents Hashimoto’s modern approach to bamboo rod design: a refined combination of delicacy, strong recovery, fast line speed, smooth progressive loading, and practical four-piece construction.
